I ship guns and other sporting items practically every day . We use UPS pretty much exclusively and no they aren’t perfect , but they do better then 30 miles a DAY .

CraigThompson 01-14-2019 07:53 PM

Well my gun departed Linthicum MD distribution center 1-9-19 and just arrived in Richmond Va an hour age 1-14-19 with NO STOPS in between . That’s a crock of poop if I ever heard one . I hesitate to think what kind of shape the box will be in when and if it arrives AND if the guns still in the box . I realize the USPS serves or served a purpose once upon a time but seems to me that time may well be past !

CraigThompson 01-14-2019 07:57 PM

I’ve got a Grade 0 top lever leaving Hendersonville NC Tuesday or Wednesday I hope like hell that one comes UPS or even Fedex .

Mills Morrison 01-15-2019 02:21 PM

Mine sat in a Post Office in New Jersey for several days with "not scanned in yet" and then it magically appeared in Savannah.

Oh well, they aren't paid much and now aren't paid at all, so cut them some slack, I guess. My local Post Office in SC is great. They love guns

Gun arrived today with four inches of the barrels poking out ! They already had the nick in the end when on GB . But amazingly the gun seems none the worse .

Mills Morrison 01-15-2019 04:10 PM

Yikes! Well, I have two supposed to arrive in California tomorrow, so hope they arrive safely.

The Grade 2 Two frame 12 gauge arrived yesterday with the barrels poking out the box . But other then the delay and the shock of the box condition all seems to be in order . This one doesn’t have as nice stock dimensions as the One frame but it’s shootable .

Dean Romig 01-16-2019 09:13 AM

Nice one!

And with a ruffed grouse on the bottom - even nicer!!

Dean Romig 01-16-2019 09:17 AM

It’s just incredible how some people pack guns... no real protection at all.

I wonder if Mark Ray took a picture of the packaging I used to send a buttstock to him last week...?

The guy I bought it from lived in the Republik of MD and he told me he took it to a dealer to ship it to us and the dealer packaged it . I dunno which was worse the packing job or the USPS . I dunno why he needed to use a dealer being as the guns an 1884 , maybe it’s a state thing . And on the other hand I’ve packed some guns really really well , where they have about two inches of bubble wrap on all sides and other stuff around them So they don’t move inside the box and some people still complain .

Mills Morrison 01-16-2019 09:50 AM

Good looking gun.

The gun was wrapped somewhat with bubble wrap but as you can see it pushed off the barrel end . And inside the box there was very little packing material to keep it from slopping around .

Craig - Did you send a picture to the seller? Might save someone else a big problem

What about a 20 gauge hammer gun ......:rotf::rotf:

Mills Morrison 01-17-2019 02:56 PM

For me, it seems there are only a few 20 gauge hammer guns and a lot of people who want one more than I do. I am just deferring to others.

Dean Romig 01-17-2019 03:30 PM

Wow! 2 1/2" DAH and F/F chokes! What's not to like about this fine turkey and waterfowl gun?!

The 20 doesn’t really call me in a hammer gun . A top lever Grade 2 16 would intrest me and a GH/GHE 20 gauge would certainly intrest me .

My latest Mill’s of the year an 1889 DH 10 with several issues that need to be addressed .

Mills Morrison 02-04-2019 10:57 AM

That should be a good working gun. Just in time for turkey season right around the corner

A friend in Ohio sent me a mold last week and it arrived today . He had it cut for a rifled 12 gauge , I may eventually use it in that capacity but my main reason to get it was for use in old 10 gauge doubles . It drops at a thousandth or so over .730” and weighs approximately 660-680 grains . I think the DH pictured above will be the first to try this slug .

Mills Morrison 02-04-2019 04:39 PM

The engraving on my DH 10 is worn too. Mine identifies as a P grade, since the engraving is almost gone and the two best barrels are some P grades I added too it.

The DH liked the new to me solid base slug in the left barrel well enough but the right barrel although keeping them together threw them a bit to far right . This was 29.6 grains SR7625 SP-10 was with petals removed , two 16 gauge 1/8 card wads on top the SP wad base .

Tried #1 Buck 16 pellets with buffer in the SP-10 shot cup and a 10 gauge over shot card .

I would love to go on a old fashioned deer drive down here and do a Parker Pages article on it. They are becoming fewer and fewer though. A local plantation put on a charity drive every year, but then somebody got shot (not fatal) and they discontinued it on liability reasons. It was too bad.

Well if you find one preferably around Archibald Rutledge’s stomping grounds and you can get another person or three in please let me know I’d love to plunk one in that area with my own handloaded buckshot .

Daniel Carter 02-05-2019 06:11 PM

Mills, just finished re-reading Rutledge's book for the third or fourth time. Looked up Hampton plantation on Google earth and found it and that it has been preserved as a park. A friend went to Virginia this year and hunted with a group with a large lease and a good pack. He enjoyed it but technology has changed every thing, think GPS collars on the dogs and reading them from the pick up and using it to get to the stands.

Mills Morrison 02-05-2019 06:32 PM

Actually, the house and 300 acres are a state park. The Rutledge family still owns 1,000 or so acres of the property. I think they still use it for hunting

I’ve never been a big hunter of deer with dogs . Nothing wrong with it , I just never was around it . I wouldn’t mind experiencing it once or twice however . The state of affairs in the Old Dominion for the deer hunters that use deer dogs isn’t the best . There has seemed to be a constant turmoil . And if I’m not mistaken the dog hunters in North Carolina are starting to have the same issues .

Mills Morrison 02-05-2019 07:49 PM

South Carolina has the same issues. It is a dying tradition for several reasons.
