I am too but, I am hoping to see a bunch of guys and gals on Wed. afternoon and Thursday at Drakes Landing before the Southern Shoot. This should be a great time for all. Safe travels...

Mills Morrison 04-14-2016 02:33 PM

I am going to be working, but hope to get some shooting in at some point. We have expanded shooting opportunities all around, so it should be a good time

chazcole 04-14-2016 10:20 PM

Heading down for the day Friday with some hunting buddies. How does the LC - Parker challenge work?

Mills Morrison 04-14-2016 10:37 PM

Chaz, Check out post no. 20 on this thread and see if that answers your questions. Look forward to seeing you

We have events for small bores all the way up to 8 bores. This should be the best one yet. . . . And thanks to Eric for loaning his Parker to the 8 bore event

chazcole 04-15-2016 10:59 AM

Thanks Mills! I'd love to try and qualify but I won't be there on Saturday. See you there!

Thanks Mills, but for people wondering, on Wed afternoon and all day Thursday shooting at Drakes Landing will only be limited to one thing... as long as your gun is a side by side shotgun, this is all about fun not scores....:) At this warm up shoot to the Southern we welcome all, so come enjoy, there will be lunch and maybe a dinner on Thursday at Drakes. Guys if you have not shot this course, you need to, it is one of the best... And then on Friday afternoon and Sat we go to the Southern.... It doesn't get much better then that. Man I am really looking forward to next week, I have had enough of this "cold"....

Craig Larter 04-15-2016 04:52 PM

I will be coming from a two month "rest" in Florida. Can't wait to meet up with everyone at Drakes and at the Southern. The weather looks good--------let the fun and games begin. First shopping trip of the year!!!!!

But first Chaz, we need to get you signed up as a PGCA member or you can't shoot for our team Parker!!
You can join on-line.
Look forward to meeting you.

Mills Morrison 04-15-2016 09:05 PM

You do have to be a member to shoot in the Parker Smith Challenge

Mike even when I shoot your club I don't take a clipboard....

I'm bringing this post back to the top for a couple of reasons..

The Southern is just around the corner and the only thing I see posted is the same argument about voting rights of the membership, which is very important but let's leave this subject alone until after the Southern, it's something that is not going to be decided overnight..

Now back to the Southern, a group of us shooters (any SxS is allowed) will be shooting at Drakes Landing on Wed afternoon all day Thursday and maybe Friday or Sat morning (can not miss the Challenge). It's a great time and for any shooters out there that have not shot Drakes, your are missing one great course. Also Mills, when is the 8 gauge shoot? Don't want to miss it (some people might get a little pissed at me:) )

Hope to see all at both shooting venues. It's going to be a lot of fun, we can go back to politics end of April, "Ok". Eric

Eric, don't need a score sheet to know your score!! :) Counting the handful of empties in the pouch let's you know the score was good. Besides, we might not be able to remember much, but I can guarantee you we remember exactly what we shot on every station!!!!

I'm trying to be nice, but the last few years, No one was shooting Deep River on Thursday, most of the times it was not even setup for shooters until late Thursday afternoon. So that is how the Drakes Landing shoot started, to have a fun shoot before Deep River. Now ..... not sure why, how to say this, but now people want to split Drakes shoot, from the fun to something else, why....? And now to put a shoot in on Thursday, why, things were going fine ... Why does everything have to happen at Deep River, which is a very poor sporting clay course, the PGCA (I'll say this again) owes Bill nothing, between the LC members and Parker members we bring hundreds of people to his shoot..:cuss: Just think what would happen if we moved the challenge the same weekend to a better venue.... Ok off my soapbox last you will hear from me. Eric

Let's keep politics off this thread. Actually, Rick tells me he will be set up sometime Wednesday and there will be shooting on Thursday.

John Truitt 04-18-2016 08:45 AM

Ever since I started going to the Southern (first year was 2008) I have always arrived on Thursday. I try my best to be there no later than noon or 1 pm.
Every year the five stands were always up and running with lots of shooters participating on Thursday until closing time.

It is always a great time and lots of people there and a good social gathering after the shooting.

Obviously enough shooters do this to now necessitate Rick setting up on Wednesday.

All my best and safe travels to everyone.

Mills Morrison 04-18-2016 09:30 AM

Bottom line is this whole event at all the venues is the Woodstock of double gun enthusiasts. The number of shooters and shooting venues attests to this

Now we are talking.
Dean- bring your bong. I still have some rolling papers somewhere.
I may arrive Wednesday.

Mills Morrison 04-18-2016 10:46 AM

Bongs??? We have fresh fired gunpowder. Isn't that better?

Chuck Bishop 04-18-2016 11:04 AM

Chaz Cole is a PGCA member, it's just not listed under his name

Mr. Carmichael attended and competed at the Fall Side by Side at Backwoods and I had the honor of meeting him there. When he was with Outdoor Life I couldn't wait for my next issue to come in the mail to read his article of the month.

The Fine Print

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Please keep in mind that Bill Kempffer provides our tent at no cost to us. It is ok to display guns, it is ok to sell if you get an offer you can't refuse, but please do not put for sale signs on items, as it competes with Bill's vendors who are paying for space. Thank you!:bigbye:
