Just back and doing a few things - BUT....

This was the highlight of my shooting year - to be able to get together with some old fiends - and some new friends alike. For that? Thank you Pete, Scott, Bob - and all the rest for making this happen each and every year... It is an amazing event.

The food was awesome - the shooting was great - and the Parker's "on site" would have left you "breathless"... In fact - today - I shot my first ever "shot" from a Parker 10 GA. My thanks Frank, for that...

Today was - and is - special... Thanks to each and all - and I promise to post pics in a bit, when I get caught up. I'm still cleaning my great-grand-fathers AAHE, which George shot simply wonderfully.

A Happy 2016 to each and all - and a special Thank You to all that arrived today to just shoot, trade stories, and share. It's what the PGCA is all about - or so I believe....

Carry on..

John

What an awesome day! So great to see everyone which I do not get to do often enough. I have learned so much on shooting, guns and good times from all who have attended over the years. I enjoy the shooting and the food but the conversations are definitely the highlight! Getting to shoot some other guns is also a definite highlight. Thanks to all that let me take a few shots. If you have thought about coming in the past but have not had a chance to make it I highly recommend coming next year. It is the highlight of my shooting year. Side note...someone left a few dollars in one of my empty shell boxes...I will be holding it for you whoever you are! A big thanks to all those who organize this.....a job very well done!

George M. Purtill 01-02-2016 07:56 AM

And you will note that Bob Weeman is now(or has returned to be) a PGCA member!!

Maybe that is why somebody put the money in his shell box :rotf:

John Dunkle 01-02-2016 08:41 AM

LOL!!!! ;)

That was from me to Frank Cronin for giving me a box of 12s so I could shoot the trap gun in a round of skeet... Pete told me it was Frank's shooting bag - however, I'm surprised Pete didn't tell me his bag was Frank's bag when there is $$$ involved..??

;)

Bob: Just checking. Was there a note affixed to the cash that read:

A.H.F.C.A.
PO Box 652
Fairport, NY 14450

Darn holidays wreak havoc with our recruiting efforts!!

Dean Romig 01-02-2016 08:55 AM

And Tool, where the heck were you? A number of guys came from farther away than you are... maybe next year??

Huh, I didn't realize that Bob had the same style and color shooting bag that I have. Well maybe next time :rotf:

bob weeman 01-02-2016 05:18 PM

I will invest Franks money wisely John and see if I can double it by the time we shoot again....hopefully sometime soon! Awesome day yesterday!

John Dunkle 01-02-2016 05:46 PM

My thanks Bob!!! As well - the paper Fed hulls are Frank's as well - so, let's see if those multiply?? AND - if they do? Can you tell us how you did that??!!!

;)

Seriously - I had a blast yesterday as well... We sure had everyone going on the elimination round shoot-off... Thankfully - both of us sandbagged a bit so we could shoot longer... ;)

John

bob weeman 01-02-2016 06:57 PM

A couple of late entries of Pete shooting what looks to be a 10 ga. at the bitter end of the elimination shoot, John D. shooting his Grand Dad's fabulous and unique 34" AAHE vent rib Double Trap, and Bob Weeman Shooting a terrific Ithaca NID Grade 5 or 6 (I think) vent rib double trap... and then Pete was eliminated.... and finally Bob was eliminated... leaving none other than............ drum roll please............ John Dunkle???:corn::whistle:

It was, as usual, a great time and honestly, we would still have shot if it was 5 degrees and blowin a blizzard... no wait - we've already done that!

I would like to see more pictures of the .410.

Derek Iske 01-03-2016 11:04 AM

Frank, thanks for the shout out.

Thanks for the invite Gents! Had a blast!. I was thrilled to shoot my new (new to me) GH. It was a relief to know that what I bought blind is still able to function flawlessly.

I will make a post of restoration updates of my GH. Looking to do much as I can myself buy most likely will have to sub out some items.

Now off to become a member...

Dean Romig 01-03-2016 11:37 AM

Derek - It was good to meet you and include you in all the fun of the day. That's a really good GH you have.

.

John Dunkle 01-03-2016 12:02 PM

Derek,

It was a pleasure to meet you - and WELCOME to being our most recent PGCA Member..! You certainly entered this organization with a "bang" (<-- sorry - bad pun, but I couldn't resist!! ;) )

Anyway - there were actually two winners in the elimination round....

Bob Weeman and I fought hard on the first elimination round - and Bob took it after several birds. The crowd went wild with excitement - as they voted that Pete had taken a chip out of his last bird - so we had a re-shoot with Pete, Bob and myself....

Then, Pete's trigger became possessed - and he had to bow out - leaving - again - Bob and myself...

The second round for the championship had a different outcome - and after 10 or fifteen dropped birds, Bob let me win, I guess..? ;)

And oh - one more thing....

Larry Frey was kind enough to give me a box of shells, and without inspecting them - I began shooting... After the Match I finally read one of the empty hulls. It read: Remington STS Rifled Slugs...

Thanks Larry.. What a buddy... ;)

Moral of the story? Well, there is no moral - except don't borrow a box of shells from Larry when shooting trap...?? ;)

John D.

Dave Noreen 01-03-2016 12:11 PM

After the Parker articles he's written you couldn't get Toolman there? At least someone was emulating Ansley H. Fox --

John,
Just think of how much more impressive your win was. What was really impressive to me was how that 34" trap gun vaporized targets on the skeet field.

Honestly? All kidding aside - I wasn't going to shoot - and then you stepped up and gave me a box of shells... My sincerest thanks!! And - I think the skeet round was a lot of fun - and I thank Frank for that.. And those xtra full chokes do "smoke them" for sure!! ;)

I had a blast - and thanks right back to you and all that attended... What a great way to start off 2016... ;)

John D.

bob weeman 01-03-2016 06:29 PM

There was no letting you win John...you be beat me fair and square...and soundly......only fitting as I was shooting my Ithaca and you that one of a kind Parker....no Ithaca could beat a Parker at a Parker shoot! Especially that Parker with you shooting it. Should have shot with my GH! Awesome day just the same!

George M. Purtill 01-03-2016 06:47 PM

Derek- welcome to the PGCA. You received a quality introduction and are now a member of the New England Chapter. Of course anyone who shows up at Waldron's, Addieville or such places in the Six colonial states, automatically become such a Chapter member.
Like Frank Cronin and I said- you can shoot that GH all day long.
