Harold that GREAT glad to hear your coming. Did you make room reservations in Fuquay-Varnia?

Yes we will shoot Thursday am around 9 I think. I'll post times as we get closer

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 01:02 PM

Along the lines of room reservations, should we stay at the Quality Inn in Fuquay Varina? It is not the Ritz Carlton, but they have been pretty accommodating to us. I understand the Hampton Inn sold out. What say you all?

Rich Anderson 02-21-2014 01:07 PM

Mills I have made reservations in Fuquay-Varina at the Quality Inn. Rooms are $69/night I believe. Mention The Parker Gun Club. Almost $30/night cheaper than the Hampton and much closer to the shooting:)

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 01:13 PM

Ok. Good. I will do the same and encourage others to join me and Rich. And Julia too.

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 01:53 PM

Just made my reservation. I thought it would be helpful to give the hotel info here. Just tell them you are with the Parker group. Hope we get a good group here.

Quality Inn
511 N. Judd Parkway NE , Fuquay Varina, NC 27526
Phone: (919) 557-2009

Rich Anderson 02-21-2014 01:58 PM

Mills, Eric, myself and Daryl Coruna are staying there as is David Dwyer I believe and maybe Harold Pickens (he said he made reservations but not where) and there sould be quite a few others as well. I am so looking forward to this, only about 65 days to warmer weather and Parker fun:)

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 02:33 PM

We are still upset about being snowed out the other weekend. Hope some others will join and we will have fun. Well, we will already have fun, but will have more fun the more people from the group join in. Harold should be able to cancel and move to Quality Inn if he booked elsewhere.

Julia also mentioned a bus to the gun show at Ruth's Chris. Any interest there?

Eric Eis 02-21-2014 03:03 PM

Mills how far away is Ruth Chris? I wanted to go since they are all friends but didn't want to have to drive miles  what city is it in?

Rich Anderson 02-21-2014 03:18 PM

Eric I think it's in a town called Cary but not sure. I have no interest in traveling an hour more or less each way for dinner. Why this wasn't held at someplace like The Flame steakhouse in Sanford is beyond me.

We will have a great group at Drakes and as we get closer I'll ask for a head count as to who is shooting on what days so if we want Dan will have a lunch for us.

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 03:52 PM

I think Ruth Chris is closer to Fuquay Varina than Sanford, so we will be ahead of the game.

You ungrateful COB! Mention everyone else except the H-Bomb and me who you know made reservations! :cuss:

Rich Anderson 02-21-2014 05:31 PM

My apologies to BFT. Now I'll have to be carefull that I don't "accidently" get hit upside the head from a set of 36 inch 10ga bbls:rotf: Just for you Mark I saw on GI and 8ga Parker w/38 inch bbls, a perfect sporting clays gun for you.

Yup, an ounce and a half of #7.5 shot in a target load should get the job done :rotf:

Harold Lee Pickens 02-21-2014 07:18 PM

Rich, yes I am staying at the quality inn.
Mills, looking forward to meeting and shooting with you along with Rich's other 11 1/2 friends.

And just who might that 1/2 friend be?

Mike.Smith 02-21-2014 10:18 PM

Hey guys, the Quality in is literally about 2 miles from Drake Landing, and Drake Landing is not that far from the Southern. I'd venture to say that you'd drive as far from Sanford to get to Deep River as you would from Fuquay-Varina. You can jump on Highway 42 in Fuquay and head straight to Deep River.

As for Ruth Chris Steakhouse, it's directly across the street from where I work in Cary. Rich is correct, that from Fuquay it would take closer to an hour to get there (probably 45 - 50 minutes).

We ended up canceling this weekend's Drake Landing shoot altogether unfortunately. Lot's of people had things come up at the last minute, and the weather here today was severe Thunderstorms and a Tornado Warning. I'll likely go shoot tomorrow as it will be 70 degrees, but it won't be the same. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone in April!

Rich, hope your shirt arrived?

Mike

Mills Morrison 02-21-2014 10:25 PM

We will have to make up lost time that we missed. Harold, looking forward to meeting you and seeing all the other folks as well.

Harold Lee Pickens 02-21-2014 10:32 PM

BTW, any body have any old REM R 57 primers? I have 25-30 old REm Express that need
R57 primers--you can have the hulls--I'll bring them with me--let me know.

Mike.Smith 02-24-2014 12:33 AM

Went shooting at Drake Landing on Saturday, and as I was finishing up, Dan Andrews flagged me down and asked me if I had my camera phone, and a few minutes to spare. He wanted to show me the new sporting clays course, and asked me to take some pictures to get you guys really fired up for April. :) It's not finished yet, but he's very close. It should be completed by mid March for an upcoming event. This is a sample of the stations, but not all of them. It's going to be AWESOME, and you won't believe the variation in elevation throughout the course.

This might be the coolest station on the course. You'll stand and shoot over the stone wall at birds close to, or on the ground.

The best part is that Dan is planning to reserve this course for more experienced shooters. If you need a safety briefing, or haven't shot much before, you'll be directed to shoot the old course. Dan has spared no expense with this new course, and it shows.

Mike

Rich Anderson 02-24-2014 08:44 AM

Thanks Mike I'm looking forward to this and to shooting the new course. Just so everyone knows this is a SECOND 100 target course so we will have ample opportunity to shoot.

Mills Morrison 02-24-2014 09:12 AM

:shock::shock:

Boy, I can't wait. They aren't open this weekend by chance?

David Dwyer 02-24-2014 09:15 AM

Mills
I want to get up there before April. I talked to Jim Hall and he does also. I am having to spend part of every week in Charlotte these days so will have to be a last minute thing.
David

Mills Morrison 02-24-2014 09:17 AM

How about this weekend? That is really last minute, but Julia and I are available and have child care services. Basically, we are going to be shooting somewhere out of town and it might as well be Drakes

David Dwyer 02-24-2014 11:49 AM

I have to be in Charlotte this weekend for the NCAA tournament. Sorry

Mike.Smith 02-24-2014 03:15 PM

I'm out there shooting just about every weekend, especially as it gets warmer. I'll let you guys know as soon as the new course is ready, and maybe we can take a run at it as a group before the Southern.

Mills Morrison 02-24-2014 03:17 PM

Sounds good. It also looks like we may need to stay close to home this weekend after all. For something good, I might add

Rich Anderson 02-24-2014 08:06 PM

You boys go get all praticed up and us Yankee's will come down and show you how its done:rotf:

I am thinking of a little friendly competition with a round (50 probably) true pairs, small bore guns. Any takers???

I'm in! Just like dealing with the Parker or Fox dilemma, I'm just south of the Mason-Dixon line so I could go either way. I've always consider myself a confederate of sorts. Damn shame they did'nt win.

Rich Anderson 03-20-2014 02:14 PM

Mike how was the new course??

David Dwyer 03-20-2014 02:29 PM

COB
I am in! 20ga? Parker 28ga hammer???( I like that as I have to only one!!!) Winner buys a round of Beer!
David

Who has a 28ga hammergun???
Small bore event should be 20,28,410. A hammergun event will work and I was thinking of a round as all true pairs. With two courses perhaps we could persuade Dan to set one up for pairs. We can do two man teams as well the sky is the limit.

David perhaps you can persuade your "friends" to have your small bore event at Drakes and get some more shooters into the mix.

David Dwyer 03-20-2014 02:40 PM

C O B
I tried that but they are loyal to Rick even thought they thing as we do about "dollar Bill K." My main man ,Dave Fjelline ,may have just lost his right eye, so put him in your prayers please.
David

Rich Anderson 03-20-2014 02:43 PM

I'll do that and I'm sorry to hear that. How did that happen?

Bill Murphy 03-20-2014 03:39 PM

I definitely want to hear about Bill's situation. What a guy.

Mark Ouellette 03-20-2014 04:13 PM

Dave F. is a great, great Parker guy! Sorry to learn of this.

Mark

Eric Eis 03-20-2014 05:19 PM

Dave is a great guy, what happened?

David Dwyer 03-21-2014 06:52 AM

Fjelline is a great guy and a good friend. He was operating a backhoe and a piece of cement flew into and penetrated his eye. He has a chance of not losing the eye and should know in 10 days. His comment to me was"I am left eye domenent anyways and will just learn to shoot left handed". He was in his shop working on a gun yesterday, 2 days after a four hour eye surgery. Tough guy!!
David

Dean Romig 03-21-2014 08:26 AM

You can't keep a good man down and Dave is a Good Guy!! If there's a way, he'll find it... all by himself. That guy is dependent on no man!.... but he is a friend and helpful to all.

Harold Lee Pickens 03-21-2014 08:45 AM

Wow, I dont know Dave, but I have been an optometrist in a medical setting for 30+ years, and have seen alot of ocular trauma. Hopefully, there was not much retinal damage. Our prayers are with him!

On another note, I was at our local NRA banquet last night and was talking to a couple of sporting clays shooters who are very good. I have shot with them and they are often 90+/100. They are going to the Southern SXS for the first time also. They are not into vintage guns(yet), and I believe shoot Beretta sxs's. Maybe I can get them to jjoin us for a round at Deep River.

Rich Anderson 03-21-2014 09:02 AM

HArold perhaps they will join us at Drakes Lnding:)

I wish Dave the best with his eye. I am left eye dominate also and wouldn't want to learn to shoot left handed:nono:
