No, it is dark red... but I haven't said we will be field camping... just a posibility.
|
Camping would be interesting. We sat around Edgars campsite last year on Saturday eve. and it was a great time. Rick passed around a bottle of single malt and the discusion was lively. Mark was taking pictures of Edgars pristine VH(E)?. Edgar's friend Alan( I believe) had an absolutely stunning 16 ga English gun--cant remember the make--I am sure someone here does. Those things make the shoot memorable.

Harold the gun Edgars friend brought was a Holland & Holland:bowdown:
|
and I shall once again bring a "dish to pass"
|
The "Theme" for this years PGCA display at Hidden Hollow will be Parker Bros. hammerguns.
Stay tuned for the terms of the Parker/Fox Challenge Event. |
I like hammer guns
|
I know....:)
|
Me to, in fact I'm thinking I'll only bring 16ga hammer guns to Hausmanns, maybe a 12 in case the Pigeon ring is open but the 32 inch 16 will work just as well. One gauge, one pail of shells, simplicity at it's finest:rotf:
|
Good idea Rich. The theme can be tightened to just 16ga Hammer guns.
I'll bring my three, Dean can bring his dozen, and you can bring your couple dozen. Bunch of hoarders is what you guys are. |

our granddaughters have their first dance recital on that Saturday, and you know we will be there. and I have grand jury duty on Friday - so - is there enough going on Sunday to make the trip worth a drive? i would expect folks to be packing up and getting ready to go by earlier afternoon Sunday. bad timing - this is the only clays event i have made a point of going to lately |
Edgar I have ONLY three Parker 16ga hammer guns:crying:
A) grade 1 lifter B) grade 2 30 inch bbl C) grade 0 32 inch bbls Now that's NOT hoarding. I do have a 4th but it's an English gun and doesn't count:rotf: |
The display will be for hammerguns of all gauges.
|
Just made my room reservation this AM. Will be there!!
Bob Jurewicz |
Well, I'm making the trip, this will be my first event ever of this kind. Think I'll be doing the field tent camping and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you characters!!!

Well now, it's been a long time since I enjoyed a good scuffle!!!! Team Fox would win that event too!!!! :draw: |
I don't think so.... They'd be afraid of getting a run in their stockings so they'd just hoist their skirts a bit and run like he77 :bigbye:
|
I'll see ya'll there this year, it's been a while.

This should prove interesting, I've never shot any sporting clays. Maybe I should shoot for the fox team.

Gents, here are the official rules for the Fox/Parker Challenge.

Gents, here are the official rules for the Fox/Parker Challenge.
2014 Fox–Parker Challenge at Hidden Hollow 1) Competition is open to members in good standing of the AHFCA or PGCA as of June 1st, 2014. Updated rosters will be on hand to verify current membership status. Dual members of AHFCA and PGCA must choose ONE Association to represent at time of registration. Anyone attempting to shoot for both Associations will be disqualified. 2) Shooters must use a vintage shotgun promoted by the organization they choose to represent. Those shooting A.H. Fox guns and representing the AHFCA are limited to Fox guns manufactured in Philadelphia, PA and Utica, NY. Those shooting Parker Bros. or Parker guns and representing the PGCA are limited to Parker guns manufactured in Meriden, CT and Ilion, NY. 3) All those who wish to compete in the 2014 Fox/Parker Challenge must first shoot the 10-12-16 gauge course at Haussmann’s. This will be the “Qualification Round.” Any gun may be used (10 GA thru .410). The gunner will specify the maker and gauge when signing up at the clubhouse. You may shoot more than one qualification round (utilizing the same maker’s gun) with a separate signup and fee due each time. 4) Qualification round(s) may be shot all day on Friday June 6th or up until 11 am on Saturday June 7th. Completed scorecards must be back into the clubhouse no later than 11 am on Saturday. NO EXCEPTIONS! 5) The Top-5, high-scoring Fox and Parker shooters will be selected for the respective Challenge teams. 6) The Fox–Parker Challenge will be conducted on Hidden Hollow’s “Crazy Quail” field at 1 pm sharp on Saturday June 6th. A flip of the coin will decide the first team to shoot. “Crazy Quail” is a type of “flurry” however the timing between target releases will be lengthened slightly, to allow for more deliberate shooting 7) A total of 125 targets will be thrown for each team of 5 gunners. High cumulative score will decide the 2014 winning team. The cumulative score for each team will be calculated as follows: the sum of scores recorded by the Hidden Hollow scorer + the official Parker scorer + the official Fox scorer. That sum will be divided by three (3) and rounded to the second decimal place. Each scorer will use a hand operated mechanical counter. 8) In the event of a trap malfunction during a team’s attempt at the Challenge targets, the Hidden Hollow official will void that team’s score and a new round of 125 targets will be shot. 9) The wearing of Eye and Ear protection is required of all competitors. 10) All Hidden Hollow/NSCA rules will apply for ammunition and maximum allowed shot size. 11) All shooters who qualify for the Challenge Team will receive an official Fox/Parker Hat to commemorate this epic contest. 12). All shooters must have fun, be safe and conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner becoming of these two, fine organizations! |

....why did that happen?...
|
Don't have M/Word. How else can I view it?

Because NE SxS does not use referees at each station like the Vintage Cup does. The shoot-out for the championship will make sure scoring is fair for the Championship. |
Thanks OP:bigbye:

You will enjoy yourself Matt. Ernie sets up a fun and challenging course. And it is a nice relaxed environment.
Just don't plan on needing your cell phone there. |
Matt,
it will be good to meet a fellow Buckeye. Edgar camped out last year and on Sat. afternoon, abunch of us sat around his campsite( at Hausmann's) and shot the bull and had a little adult refreshment--very enjoyable. As far as shooting goes, dont worry about it. We generally dont even carry our score cards--and if you have never shot sporting clays, maybe I wont be the low gun, ha! I will leave very early Fri morning and get ther around noon--it is a long drive, especially when you get close--there is no straight shot. I'll leave Sun, around noon for home. Harold |
I have to say that I'm pretty excited about this format for the shoot this year. I like the ability to qualify multiple times if I want, and I love the formality of having a face to face shoot off with scorekeepers. I think it brings this shoot up a level and will hopefully draw a good crowd for the final. I also like the idea of a slowed down version of the "Crazy Quail" shoot off, instead of the typical five stand. Jim and Benjamin Hall shot the Crazy Quail setup at Backwoods with me last fall, and running full speed it's quite a challenge. I think it's a great way to test the skill of the shooters, based on the upredictable nature of the targets.

Hausmanns in in the boon docks of NE PA. Your lucky if you get a signal.
|
That doesnt bother me one bit!
|
For those who need/want to keep in touch while in the boonies, you might consider a signal booster. I get zero, maybe one bar out in the mountains at the hunting cabin. But with the booster I'll get 3-4 bars and my iPhone works as normal with Verizon. I also bought the 12V power supply and unit works equally well in weak areas while in the vehicle or on the ATV. I have no affiliation with Wilson.

I don't need to be that accessable:nono: Voice mail works and I'll get back to them in the evening.
|
I agree Rich. It will be refreshing not to here cell phones ring all day. I know mine went off a lot at Drakes on Thurs, but thats' cause it was my birthday. Should have left it in the truck!
|
Harold, Do you get on the the PA turnpike to Harrisburg then north on rt. 81 or is there a better way to get there? Oh, by the way, if we happen to shoot together not to worry, you will look good!
|
Boy, there is no straight shot, or easy way there.
I go I 70 to New Stanton and take a short toll connector to RT 22( the same one that runs thru Cambridge), and then 22 to hit I99 just south of Altoona--then 99 t0 I 80 and from there , I cant remember all the twists and turns. |
Maybe Morris will start a helicopter shuttle service
|
I can get to within spitting distance with my eyes closed.
Its the last 2 miles that gets me every time. Seems I go round and round. |
For those coming from the south and planning to use I-81N from Wilkes Barre thru and past the Scranton area ..... there's a lot of road/bridge reconstruction going on in that section of about 20 or more miles. This morning the TV news reported a 3 mile long backup in one section. You might consider getting off I-81 at Wilkes Barre and using an alternate route to Hidden Hollow or to the Parker hooch in Vestal NY. Sorry I won't make any suggestions for alternate routes; I did that a couple of times in the past and it didn't work out with some gents. Nuff said. If were doing it I'd try using Mapquest and "stretch" the map route north of Wilkes Barre to find alternates on the state highways.
|
Thanks for the heads up on I-81, I was kinda thinking of that route, about 80 miles longer but I think less drive time. Back to plan B I guess, just have to figure out what plan B is.
