I was bidding against another PGCA member (unknowingly, but not surprising) who got the info from Chuck. The Seller contacted me to say he had cancelled the auction, that they were, as I suspected, 16 gauge, and cut down.

I learned the information from a bidder (PGCA Member) who contacted the seller with specific questions.

The operative word being IF
 
while my heart rate was still elevated, I made a fairly thorough scan of the serialization book. IF that gun had, in fact, turned out to be a 20gauge, it would have been the 5th Grade 2 20 gauge, the 8th Top Lever 20 gauge, and among the first dozen 20 gauge guns. Only if..............
