That shows just how observant I am. If it is a black hull I just assumed it was a Remington Game load, never looked at the hull base. Thanks.

I've loaded quite a few 16s and have had good luck with the chedite hulls or federal game load purple ones, they seem to take the same loads equally well.

I load a variety of 16 gauge hulls and none of them are consistent in their dimension, which is supposed to be 2 3/4". The difference runs from 20 to 30 thousandths short. Never oversize in length. The difference is not significant enough to cause reloading problems. My supply includes Federal paper and plastic, Winchester CF and PF, Remington black and Rem green papers.

I don't know John. I have a few thousand lying around here and I have found this difference in length to be very consistant depending on the shot size marked on the hull.

Come on Dave, those cheap Rem. game load hulls split on the first firing, right out of the box. :rotf::rotf: :bigbye:

Dave, maybe your HOT loads are causing the plastic to melt and get brittle.:rotf: I don't know about 16ga, but the 12ga game loads last as long as the STS or Nitro's.

I've got a small bag of black plastic Remington ribbed 16ga shells that I bought in 1965...! They're still fine.....I think... I know I killed my first woodcock with a Mod 11 and a shell from that box.
