I will order the letter ASAP. I will post some pictures tommorow.

The issue of "line or no line at end of barrel matting" is irrelevant to the question of "have the barrels been cut?". I have seen any number of letter documented Parkers that have no line where the matting terminates and the barrels are uncut. I currently own a 28" G that has no line. My letter and copy of the order book entry document the factory 28" length. Conversley, I have seen, and once owned a gun that had the proper line and the barrels touched AND WERE CUT! There are some very good metal mechanics out there who make desception possible. Be careful.

so - line or no line - just a thought
if you figure the rib matting was done ahead of time in batched of ribs, and now there is a stack of ribs at hand for the barrels joiner. everything is in place in the jig and he needs to solder the rib on a set of 28 inch barrel which are in line to finish for an order- but the closest sized stack of damascus ribs are 30 inchers, . does he stop and wait for the 28" batch? or trim it and keep the order moving? I don't know if Parker workers were on piece work, but if so - he wasn't stopping. |
