The gauge of the two guns would not be the determining factor. #0 frame guns of whatever gauge were commonly fitted with #0 size or #1 size stocks depending on the desired weight or fit. To add a bit, a #1 frame gun is also commonly stocked with a #0 frame stock.

Ah, the rest of the story. I found the Skeleton Buttplate from s/n 177244, which the serial number book lists as a DHE 20 gauge with 32" barrels. Rare bird and I'm thinking this might have been one of the ones that went to California to hunt ducks back in the day. Accordingly, I thought it might have been built on a 1 frame because that was (I believe) and option.

Tom,
I own #177244!!!!!!!!
It is as you describe and was restored and restocked to original configuration. It is on a O frame with original 2 3/4" chambering as stated in the PGCA letter. It is a CA duck gun of the era.
Thank you!

WOW... It really does happen!! Reuniting long-lost parts with the gun they came from.

Good copy on that Bob. I have zero problem with a swap and sent you an email with particulars on the buttplate itself. I'm out of town until tomorrow afternoon, so I may not be able to check my emails until tomorrow afternoon. Tom

It's only right...

So Tom,
How were you able to convince Bob to turn over the 20 gauge
so you could reunite your buttplate with its' long lost gun?

Offered Bob a swap of the buttplate if he could find an original Parker 20 Gauge skeleton in trade.

Thanks Harold. This one is indeed smaller, so it certainly was made for a 20 ga.
