It is a Grade 2 but made in Fulton, it is still a pre-13 Smith. There are a number of features that are the indicators. The rounded front of the forend lug, the dog escutchion in the forend, the shape of the forend tip inlay, the engraving pattern on the locks and the lack of wings filed under the action. It is a shame about the barrels but still a very pretty gun.

Jent: there appears to be a crack in the lump

I just picked up these barrels on the LCSCA site
http://members.boardhost.com/lcsmith...326469280.html

They are Armor steel, marked '2', and were likely (much later) factory skeet barrels made for a 1901 unknown grade gun. The muzzle of the left barrel might be slightly out of round and it looks like they were dropped with a cosmetic ding on the chamber end of the right barrel. Rib is intact and they ring like a bell and the pin & disc barrel check and extractor are there.

I'd like to help get Thomas' neat gun back in service. Unfortunately that serial number is part of the 'lost' series, so no Research letter would be available, but it likely started as a Live Bird/Trap gun.
If no one else buys the gun, I probably will, but am concerned about the extent of the needed wood repair. If someone buys the gun and wants the barrels contact me at revdoc2@cox.net

Hello OLD G, Are you going to sell this LCS #2 OR are you going to restore this LCS #2 ??? Brad B and the craftsmen at his gunsmithing shop recently finished restoring a LCS #2 for me and turned it in to a great clay target shooting machine. Here is the LINK to some of the pictures and details of the restoration that Brad B and Channing W did for me.
