Gary, most #4 frame graded tens were made at almost exactly 11 pounds for competition shooting. If you get a name on your order, shoot it to me and I'll see if I can identify him as a known competitor.

Bill, the gun was sold to T Carter in Salt lake City Utah Sept 15 1879 then to Nelson Soule in Paducah KY Sept 2 1881

As I recall, Thomas Carter was a frontier merchandiser, trading post operator and dealer in Parker shotguns. When I bought a Carter gun some years ago, I researched him and found interesting information. I even found a Carter letterhead with an inquiry or a comment about a Parker shotgun on order. Google may get you some interesting information. Reread Kevin McCormack's DGJ article about his B Grade hammer gun. I think there is some Carter information in that article. I may be mistaken about that, but the article is still worth rereading. Sorry, Gary, the letter with the comment about the Parker shotgun was not a Carter letter. In fact, I think your gun is Kevin's old gun from the DGJ article. Congratulations.

Bill, did Kevin sell his B grade hammer gun if so to who? do you know if my ser# is the same as the one he had ? When did he part with the gun, I know these are a bunch of questions but if it is the same gun that he used to have what a coincidence

I don't think it's a coincidence. We sell guns and they flow around the market. Some vendors are not interested in the history of the gun, only in the "transfer" of the gun. It's up to you to put the history together if you want to. The serial number is in Kevin's article and you can compare it to your gun.

#13565 is the serial number mentioned in Kevin's article. He also mentions the same shipping date that you mention. Kevin can fill you in on the owner of the gun after him. I find it hard to understand why the seller of the gun did not identfy the gun as a Grade 5 since Kevin's article states that the water table is marked with the grade.

I have a 10Ga. with 34 inch barrels that are weight stamped 9 pounds.. 7 0z. gun total weight is 14 pounds. its a bruiser. Thanks Thomas
