The checkered butt showed the outline of two circular rods/plugs stacked on top of each other. I assumed these to be reinforcing rods since there were two of them. It was certainly an interesting gun.

The two plugged holes in a checkered wood butt are common to most Parkers with that butt. It is not normally a hickory reinforcing rod.
