Is the str stocked BTF gun your VH skeet 20? I have used nothing but 7 1/2 for Pheasants for years and with a pointing dog never needed any more.

No Rich it's not my skeet gun. It's a 1937 VHE transition gun with no Parker markings on the receiver but so marked on the rib. It has a Miller trigger, non auto safety and killer chokes- IC/Mod. It's without a doubt my go to favorite gun that I've hunted with 40 yrs. I cringe when I see people in the checkout at Cabela's gearing up for pheasants buying 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 of 4's or 5's. Just how big are these birds?

Daryl, Looks like you had a great hunt with your labs and nice doubles.
I really enjoyed watching your two labs at Hausman's meadow last June - two really energetic dogs!! Is "energetic" a good description??? |
Dean,
It's a pretty good description of the "children". Enthusiastic could be used as well as but as soon as bird scent hits their nostrils their focus changes as well as their body language. Any dog guy can relate to that and it really is a thing of beauty to watch. It's what keeps me pushing through the next patch of cover to see them work another bird. It never gets old. Add a wonderfully balanced double to this scene and you never want the day to end. |
