Opening day here in MD was split between two 28ga guns. Started with an MX28 and finished with the 30" VHE. 75* and breezy which made for some fun shooting.

Hugh, are the Eurasion considered an invasive species there? If so, is there no limit on them, and can you shoot them year around? We've had them here in AZ for years, and we do shoot them year around.

That is my understanding here, too.Generally though they are considered doves by hunters as are whitewings which are also present and harvested by hunters during dove season .Whitewing doves are considered by the state and federal wardens as game species. We are told whitewings are on the increase as are eurasians.

Sorry late to answer. Yes. 10 bird limit. 30 in possession. September 1-25. Those at the end of the flock are mighty tender having been born this summer.

I’m very interested in the Eurasian dove hunting. As far as I know we have none of these here in Ohio. Are they just as tasty as regular Mourning doves? Would love to try these sometime.

I got one the other day and will try it.They are bigger than a mourner but not as big as squab so think I will cook it like a mourning dove: Braise in butter, make gravy and simmer til done.Serve with rice covered with the gravy.May serve it with Dr Pepper to drink in honor of Charlie Cleveland.
