Once again, this just goes to reinforce "Never say never". |
I would really like to see the stock and order book entries for Dave's gun.

I think in theory they were, but what happens on the factory floor with workers getting product out the door and "in theory" are two very different things. A Quality 2, number 2-frame could certainly end up with either a set of 12-gauge or a set of lighter 10-gauge barrels, so whether stamped E or G probably wasn't of great concern to workers at the time.

For reference the markings on a normal run-of-the-Gunworks #3 frame, Grade 2 aka "E" 10 gauge...

For the record, guys, I know of an "N" that is a lettered 8 gauge.

This is the gun I sent to my son, pictures attached.

My 12-gauge 2-frame Damascus barrel gun that is marked with a 2 above the serial number and an E below is serial number 56213. It is lettered as a Dam 2 PG hammerless by Mark. What doesn't letter is the number 2 set of barrels that ate 32-inch Vulcan Steel 20-gauge barrels. My gun was at The Vintage Cup in 2005 and 2008 when I drove, but I'm flying in this year, so it won't be coming.
