I have a Damascus 0-frame 16 gauge GHE that Oscar Gaddy measured at 0.0063" and wrote to me that it "is probably safe to shoot with pressures of less than 7,500 psi."

Are you sure about your decimals? I can't believe anyone would suggest six thous safe to shoot.

 Caught me again Edgar. I’ve done that before and should know better…:banghead:

This entire thread is a jumble of incorrectly stated decimals. Mr. Welsh's decimals are not any more accurate than Mr. Romig's. Three thousandths? How about we refer to these measurements as "thousandths" rather than using decimals.

Dean Romig 09-12-2023 12:57 PM

One hundred, ten thousandths on the twelve gauge and Oscar Gaddy measured sixty-three thousandths on my sixteen-gauge Damascus barrels... :corn:

.063" anywhere beyond the fore end is fine, but at the forcing cone?:nono::nono:
Thats 1/16". (One Steenth) You might never get hurt, but it would only take one tired iron/steel junction, and you could blow that out with a bicycle pump.
Nope, nuh uh, not me!

edgarspencer 09-12-2023 02:40 PM

Dammit Bill, I'm sorry. I meant to say sixty three thousandths.

You guys must have been a nightmare in math class. (:

But thank you for sticking with the conversation as I find it helpful.

A standard sheet of paper measures approximately .002-.003 (two - three thousandths).
