the near dog has a swiss bell often listed as a sheep bell -i used a much smaller one on m first setter- I was very disappointed when he lost it in a cover not long before he passed. In the painting the bells are hung directly on the collar without an additional loop so they don't hang down to the legs. I never thought that let them ring clearly enough.
since Becasses is in the title - it would be a European woodcock.
the largest bells I have seen used on NA dogs would fit inside those- I saw an old iron cow bell like the back dog's that I joked with my wife about getting to slow a wide ranging young dog. |
