Actually Greg, I too prefer the look of every kind of composite barrel over fluid steel, but I wasn't at all happy with the "barber pole" effect of dark and lighter bands in this Damascus sample.

Is the barber pole effect directly related to the type of steel and iron used in the barrel making process rather than any procedure used in finishing?

Yes definitely mismatched ribbands Bill, not the finishing process.
