I refinished a sleeved MacNaughten last year. Customer wanted black and white though. I can do Brown and White. It’s difficult though when you want the tubes blacked though.

Hard to say from your photo, but your rib joint doesn’t look good.

My Bayard, from Liege, Belgium, is a wonderful example of Damascus to fluid steel sleeving. I'm sure there are other European makers who used this system.

The joint is solid, looks off in the picture, but yes, browned chambers. They could have removed a little more solder from the joint, but it’s solid and rings nicely.

My Bayard has fluid steel chambers and Damascus tubes. Very elegant, like the pictured examples.

There are some really stunning examples out there, I think it looks good on a foreign gun.

Chamber and muzzle treatment

From an auction catalog. As I recall, John Foster did the work.

To each his own, but that makes my eyes hurt.

Daryl, what is the make of the pictured gun?

Daryl Hallquist 01-05-2022 10:26 AM

breech and muzzle sleeving

The pictures were taken a long time ago in a British auction catalog. I think the gun was British, but cannot remember what maker. Judging from the bit of engraving shown, it must have been a top of the line gun.
