Today is cold, snowy, breezy and -20s predicted tonight (no wind chill included). It was enough to make me change my desk top background to this shot of my front porch last July 4th.

beautiful place...i like all of the 4 seasons but winter is sometimes to dreary....your picture of your home cheers me up except the reminder of cutting grass.... charlie

Here is one more Charlie a little more in keeping with the season and looking the other direction to show off the mountains. I saw a thread on here awhile back with a lot of mountain pictures and probably should have put it up then. I like to see pictures of other parts of the country I might never visit.

Charlie: A visit to Peter's place would let you climb the mountains and see forever. Here, the front yard is the same but the back yard high point is the top of a bale, not a mountain peak. The view from the top of a bale is quite amazing. You can see the edge of the world. Here, we know the world is flat and if you wander over to the horizon, well you'll just fall off and who knows where you might end up then.

beautful scene jack...this place looks like kansas could be at calvins farm...those old wily roosters like those hay bales...jack i sure would like to climb on one of those hay bales and see the view.... maybe some day i will get to climb that hay bale.... charlie

FYI boys, my original photo of July 4th to make me feel warm was on target as I had
-31 F this AM. We are in a high valley, about 7600' surounded by mountains from 12,000 to 14,000'+ so its a cold air sink and our place is at one of the lowest points in the valley. Shop cats water was frozen this AM as it got down to 22 in the shop which is insulated and had a fire going. Stoked it up right away! |

Everything's covered in a layer of ice, all bird seasons are done and the creeks have been frozen over for some time now here in SE PA. Thoughts of spring gobbler season, mountain freestone streams filled with brookies and large browns rising in meadow spring creeks keep me going as I head out to open up ice choked gutters. One of my favorite spring creeks in VA's Shenadoah Valley...

If it'll make you feel better, the high temperature today at our house in Phoenix was 40 F, with a 20-30 mph wind all day. No, we don't have snow, but for here that is a cold day.
