Stan, I have always preferred rondelle and have often previously spelled it that way but others, as well as Dr. Drew Hause, seem to prefer roundel.

But on further investigation, rondelle is used in terms of a of a piece of cut jewelry whereas roundel is defined as "1. a small disk, especially a decorative medallion." from Google definitions.

I believe that Bruce Day has been credited with coining the term Roundel to describe this variation of engraving. Bruce has always spelled it Roundel to my knowledge.
