I actually thought about the forearm vs. fore-end "get the skinny" when I typed my response. I should have gone back an double checked it. My bad.
|
I have always just shortened it to forend regardless of what my ‘electronic device’ tells me.
I have also always been a student of the origination of words. I wonder if “forend” derived from fore-end may have derived from ‘the piece of the gun upon which your ‘fore hand’ is placed, thence the contraction ‘fore ‘and’ thence ‘fore-end’? The hyphenated word ‘fore-end’ makes much less sense to me, the ‘end’ part of it being almost meaningless as it might relate to a part of a gun... Hey Sammy - what are your thoughts? . |

Nomenclature, if you want to understand the essence of communication have grandchildren and listen to the things they come up with. My granddaughter at 4 would call that the wood thingy you put your hand on to hold it and and aim it. Would she be wrong, would she have communicated her meaning? If she was wrong you tell her i am not going to.

But she is 4 and doesn’t know any better. :) These guys are supposed to be professionals!! :rotf: My pet peeve is when guys interchange clip for magazine!! :cuss::banghead:

Parker used the word fore-end in their catalogs however I've also seen it spelled forend in the stock books.
