Dean,

Clarifying question , this gun letters to 1875, two years before the PB barrels were "available " per the info above. Is it possible that when it got sent back for new stock, it got new barrels ?

Or did I misread the info and the P mark is different than the PB ?

Yes Jeff, the P stamp does not share the same meaning with the PB in the shield. I have not yet seen the PB in the shield on any of the Laminated Steel barrels with the P.

I seem to recall an article in the Parker Pages either about the PB mark and Parker proofing barrels or as part of a story on a hammer gun. When I have time I will look through my old copies but that might take awhile.
