Beretta isn’t doing it for charity, they are going to expect a return on their investment and that means 1) increased sales and/or 2) reduced manufacturing costs. I don’t see Beretta being able grow the H&H market share so that means reducing manufacturing costs. Maybe H&H will be able to outsource some of their basic parts to Beretta but I don’t necessarily think it’s going to be good for the H&H brand.

I got 4 hour tour of H&H by their plant manager about 10 years ago. The man who arranged it was a plant manager at Ford. He was very familiar with manufacturing operations. As we went thru. my friend was muttering "I would do away with him" Or "why not combine that job with the guy next to him?". The Plant manager said "Jeff - a few hundred dollars difference in a $100,000 gun doesn't make a bit of difference".

H&H had at that time about a dozen or so different receivers. Almost all of them had been coverted to CNC machining, but they had several which they chose not to convert, claiming that if they did that, they would lose the knowledge of how to do it "the old way",and that was not good. For example, I was able to handle a 20 gauge SxSxS which obviously would have been done by hand

I've been the guest of H&H as well as some other top London makers, and yes, a good bit of their operations are now automated. Nothing wrong with roughing out the parts by machine. But as long as "the last few strokes of the file remain" in the hands of top craftsmen, there will be nothing to compare to a fine London gun. Even from Italy...

I’ve not (yet) been an invited guest of H&H, but a very full bladder provided one of my most memorable shotgun experiences. I was in London a few years ago on business and happened to be staying near Audley House. Before leaving, I went into Purdey’s and thoroughly enjoyed looking at the guns and dreaming. On the way to the airport, I mentioned it to the cabbie who just happened to be a shotgun guy. He said we were driving right past H&H and if I had the time, he’d be happy to stop. Absolutely! After looking around a bit, I asked the gentleman for the men’s room. Looking annoyed, he said he was the only person there but would escort me to their private loo. I followed him downstairs, past the H&H board room. The walls were lined with historic H&H guns. After exiting the restroom, I realized the gent had gone back upstairs. I stayed for quite some time admiring the guns on display. Pretty neat experience enjoyed because I had to pee. Lol

And don't forget H&H brand "lifestyle" accessories and equipment.

I'll just mark this bit of information under the heading of "Things that will not impact my life", as I will never be able to spend that kind of money on an H&H anyway. :D
