Dean, stock books 75,76,78,79,81, and 82 all have 1/2 for guns that are actually 1 1/2 frames. True 1/2 frame guns didn't start till S/N's 240xxx and above. There are no records that I know of which would show which guns with S/N's 240xxx are actually 1/2 or 1 1/2 frame sizes.

I did not realize they started that late, but that would explain the rarity (and corresponding high prices)

Thanks very much Chuck - That's exactly the detailed information I was looking for.

For the sake of finding this in a search, years from now.

I want to be able to find the letter and information again. Now it will pop up in a search.

Where did Remington get the detailed information about the dates various parts of the gun were completed?

Dean Romig 01-28-2021 07:52 AM

From what I now understand Mike, they got it from the original factory build records. Ith IBM cards were merely a “quick reference” or basic inventory card with a few basics and sometimes who the gun was for or was shipped to.

Does anyone know where those records are? Has anyone actually seen them?

Dean Romig 01-29-2021 07:33 AM

Great question Mike. I’d like to know the answer too.

Chuck, do you know?
