Please elaborate.
I have the same problem: a short stock to a dhbp.

My recently acquired 16 ga VH (picked it up from Cabela's today) is an inch too short, even with the dhbp. It is so short (13 3/4"), and my grip hand is so close to my face, that if I fired I proof load, it might break my nose :knowbetter:

The dhbp has a chip off the toe, which I presume could be easily fixed.

Otherwise the gun shows honest wear, but no abuse whatsoever.

The stock is straight as an arrow and as plain as dishwater, but in great shape.

The barrels show but traces of bluing, and the action and other parts show the last remnants of case color.

All in all, I am quite pleased. It locks up tight as a drum, it weights but 6 lb 8 oz, and everything seems very much in order. No pits, no dings, no cracks, no buggered screws.

So then, how would one lengthen the pull to reasonably accommodate my needs, without adulterating the gun beyond all recognition?

One idea I had rolling around upstairs would be to glue the existing dhbp to the butt, so that the spur is epoxied in, then cut the butt for pitch, leaving only the spur and a clean surface to attach a black 5/16" spacer and a 1" Galazan or Silvers pad.

I would like to keep the weight down and the balance true. Those 1 1/2" Galazan pads are beasts. If memory serves, they weight in at 11 ounces (or was it 13?) At any rate, I would like to avoid taking a nifty little 16 and turning it into a pig.

Thoughts?

i don't understand the glue and cut part - are you changing the pitch or is it the flatten the butt?

take the butt plate off - add your spacer - fill the spur void with black acraglass

and add the pad

As to the pitch question, yes, I would, if and when I were to make such a modification, but I much prefer your idea to mine. That way I could save teh original butt plate, which is fine, except for that small chip.

And rest assured, I would put the job in the hands of someone else, preferably someone who knows what they are doing.

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestion, got a pad from Phil C and having local stock person fit it to the gun. I'll send pictures when it is complete.
