Legh, I believe it is supposed to be a dogwood blossom. Most graded Parker hammer guns that don't have rib matting had that or some other engraving done over the filed-flat screw head that secures the doll's head rib extension more firmly than just solder. All Parkers with a doll's head rib extension have the screw but it is matted over on later guns.

Thanks Drew - As can be seen on the E.C. Meacham "Premiere" as well as on my last picture, the joint between the rib and the rib extension was also disguised by engraving.
