I saw one many years ago at a firehouse gun show - the TG sn varied by one digit higher than the rest of the gun's numbers. It was a very tired but sound and original VH 20 gauge. Lots of caveat emptor angst and kvetching by the great unwashed over it.

Not only in Meriden! My .410-bore Ithaca NID is 459135 everywhere except the stock wood which is stamped 457135.

My sporting clays hammer 16 is X654X, but both hammers are stamped X754X.

I suspect that there was one person in charge of numbering the soft metal parts before hardening with the exception of the trigger guard and wood. The person responsible must have been brilliant to make so few errors with such a repetitious job. After all Parkers were built long before the ISO 9000 quality standard.

I have a problem when reading numbers with several digits and then writing them I often will switch or change one. There is a name for it but I don't remember what it is. Perhaps some of these workers were afflicted with it also.
