Do any of you short 10 ga guys Turkey hunt with the RST loads ?
Im debating 1 1/8 oz vs the 1 1/4 oz loads and #4 vs #5 shot .
My 10 ga 3.5" guns never cared for #4 2 1/4oz loads on the patterning board .
I am thinking perhaps a lighter load of #4s would pattern better ?
I dont think a turkey will tell much difference between a #4 and #5 pellet but I dont have the experience to back that up .

RST 1/8th 5’s work fine for me...i’m patient.... my bow hunting training makes me wait for a 20-25shot at max, no matter what ii’m shooting.

If I go I'll take either the GHE 32 inch 16 F/F of a Fox CE 12 also 32 inch F/F.

IMO if you're going for a lighter load you should also go with a smaller shot size in order to maintain pattern density. I would go to #6 rather than #4 in replacing the #5 you have been using. The effective target size of a turkey's head and neck are really quite small and a denser pattern will be more effective. The bones you need to break are not big and heavy, but a sparse pattern has more of a chance to miss those small but critical places.

A few months ago I made a trade with a fellow from central PA for his (departed) Dad's old turkey gun. It is a 16 gauge Winchester model 97 (1942) 28" full choke. He gave me a couple boxes of shells to include Remington high brass #6. I never met his Dad but intend to keep the tradition going.

I'm like Mark R., I like them up close and personal as I have been using a vintage recurve for years. This year I'll be using a new to me 32" 20ga Sterlingworth stoked with 7/8oz. handloads of #7 1/2's in the right tube and #7's in the left choked XF/XF. I know people will say 7 1/2's? Like Dean said it's really all about pattern density and it's worked for me for many years.
For me the challenge is getting them within 30yds. and then seeing the "oh sh#t" look in their eyes when you pop out of nowhere.
