Looks like it has a dowel in the stock also. You can see it on the butt... unless that's just a coloration anomaly. I like it! A 26" single trigger PG 20ga is just what I'm looking for to make shooting left handed less damaging to my left hand.

Well I measured the barrel bores and choke. Bores are .615 each. Barrels are cylinder cylinder. No choke. Barrels have been cut but very well done. Sure wish it still had those 32” barrels.

I guess the cylinder-cylinder chokes tell the story about the barrels, but I noticed that the unstruck barrel weight is 3-11. Is this a clue? Would this weight be right for 32 inch 20 ga barrels but heavy for 26" barrels?

I just check my PHE 20, 0 frame, 32" and the unstuck weight is 3-13.

The gap between the tubes certainly would be an indicator of cut barrels. Is there a termination line at the end of the matting, or does it run off the end of the muzzle?

No termination line. The barrels are definitely cut. I liked the gun but the price was higher then I wanted to pay so I passed.
Remington did have the gun in for repair work twice. Was it cut by them? I’m not sure.
A little more information, the serial number was stamped under the trigger guard.

Does the gun feel balanced Phil. Dale's had 32"as you know, but it was too heavy on the back end. The splinter made a big difference on the 26".

It was a little tail heavy but I could have shot it.
