Looks like fun and something to do in the off season. Feral pigeons are good eating birds.

Here is vintage video of some old pigeon shooters in the Snake river canyon at Twin Falls Idaho. The whole video is great but Look at about the 3:00 minute mark. Not much has changed in this area since then.

Patrick, how is "Long Range"? OK, I hope.

Eating Feral pigeons? Ugh. I've shoveled out too many pigeon coops when I was training Springers

The best eating feral pigeons in the pigeon family are the squabs. Remind me to tell you of some of my squab stories next time we are together.:)

As a kid I can remember seeing old wooden squab boxes at Montpelier in Orange VA . At the tim,e the estate was owned by Marion DuPont Scott . The boxes were left over from years earlier but my grandfather told me the train would come from somewhere in the northeast I think and drop off 10 or 12 boxes filled with squab packed in ice and to the main house they would go .

OK - We are booked for an early August shoot near Twin Falls - Going with a small group of 4 to test this out.
Planning on bringing my 28 gauge VH 30" 0 frame and my 20 GH 32" 0 frame
Two days of eradication!
Report and pics to follow!

I am envious and I cannot wait to hear how this goes. Sounds like tremendous fun. Best of luck. Nice choice in guns BTW ...

If it were me, I'd take my 34" 12 gauge and some #6 shot.

Daryl Corona 06-28-2019 11:48 AM

Good choices Mark. What a blast that should be.
