A 71 1/2" barrel, then a 55" and a 48". The first barrel puts you two yards closer to the target. What is surprising is two of them are listed as 16 gauge instead of 12. I would think they all were 12s. If they go for the low estimate, they would be a bargain for what someone paid to have them done. An old shooter has gone to the great turkey shoot in the sky.

I have a contemporary remake of a flintlock club butt fowler and that has a 52" 16 gauge barrel. I thought that was long until I saw those guns...

2-2-10 loads are a Virginia thing. You may notice that any 2-2-10 shells you find are made there, and most of them are shot there.

Wagner has been making shells for nearly fifty-five years and I doubt Virginia alone could have kept them in business. Barrel makers are out of IN, OH, GA, NC, Va, and most assuredly in every Southern state. You tell them the shell you are shooting and they customize the barrel and choke to the shell for the densest pattern.

Go to this website and see that there are shoots everywhere and not every shoot is advertised as there are thousands not listed on the website. I called the manufacturer and she confirmed these shells go most everywhere in the U.S. The 2-2-10 is their most popular shell and you can see shoots listed for MO, PA, TN, VA, etc. using Wagner shells. But a lot of shoots use the cheapest shell they can buy at Wally World. This makes it difficult for as you know, guns shoot each shell differently.

Wow, what a cache of information.

At my club here in Kentucky the turkey shoots are huge events drawing hundreds of shooters. A few years ago the rules were changed to eliminate the scopes and a maximum barrel length was established. I guess the slow muzzle velocities are to help maintain tight patterns. That might be a good strategy for actual turkey hunting loads with larger shot.

Reminds of the saying I always see with regards to muzzleloading shotguns, which usually have cylinder chokes:

Less powder, more lead, shoots far, kills dead

More powder, less lead, kicks hard, wide spread

i think that those low speed loads would not be usfull in any kind of hunting...i guess i m one of those fellas that likes big bore guns and plenty of powder and shot in a load.....charlie

And that list only hits the high spots. Know of several in Virginia not listed. Club I belong to it’s a big social event. Family’s with all the Kids. Fire pits Hot Dogs Hamburgers. They are very strict with equipment. Use club shells & check chokes. I work it as a volunteer never shot it. Did check two of my Parker’s chokes, SBT & 30 inch VH failed as too tight.

Lobbied for unlimited class like a short 10. Turned down, reason, gamblers would ruin it. Probably right.
