And the letter states the barrels are Acme Steel but neither has a distinct "A" stamped within the circle on the right barrel flat.
The remaining case color is cyannide induced. None of the changes or modifications look like Remington to me - Who had a matting machine that would replicate Parker's rib matting? Wasn't it LeFevre (!)? And the one Dr. Truitt links for us has also been to Remington. These guns are so similar, and both sent to Peoria and eventually both to the same person - and now they both arrive on Gunbroker at about the same time. . |
Dean, Lefever had the original Parker barrel matting machine. It was in Frank Lefever’s shop in Lee Center, NY about 20 years ago. I saw it there.

Thanks Bill. I wonder if both of those guns were fitted with those aftermarket ventilated ribs (with correct matting) at Frank Lefever’s shop...?

the #3 frame gun looks to be sleeved/ monoblocked
it is my understanding that Lefever did some fantastic monoblocking in the past lefever seems to fit the whole picture for these guns including the conversion to beavertail forearms as the barrels all have the lug for a splinter type forearm. |
To me, both barrel sets look sleeved when viewed from the bottom. But I could not find any evidence from other views of a sleeve joint from the top or sides.
John, that set of blown up barrels with vent rib you got from me was an added rib onto a standard set of barrels and the transition from concave rib extension to the ramp was the same as these. And that barrel set had remington repair codes on it. Not that they had to have been for the vent rib addition. But i always thought it was. |
In one or two pictures there is a faint line which looks like sleeving.
|
So what’s everyone’s opinion on the final price?
|
I am not surprised. I figured it would go for around that. Not a bad buy for both barrel sets. Especially if they are sound.
|
She went way above my price line. But I will say with some work it has the potential to be a great gun. Jarod at IronMen is very helpful and willing to answer any questions and seems to be very truthful and honest.
Hopefully the owner enjoys the gun. |
Is it me or has there been a bumper crop of b grades available lately? I probably should get one while supply is up
