Rick, you have seen two guns sold on ebay? What was the second one? I bought a gun on ebay.

one was a PH, VH and the other was a grade 2 top lever. The VH and Top lever were complete guns.

there was another one, unless you removed the stock. So how is it possible to receive this gun without going through a FFL?

WOW - a PH with Laminated Steel barrels! There weren’t many of those made. The vast majority of composite barreled PH guns had Twist Steel barrels.

Legh Higgins has one and the research letter shows the order entry “Use cust. barrels.” So apparently the customer provided the barrels from possibly a Grade 1 hammer gun... I know, that’s just speculation but there were a lot of very late 1880’s - early 1890’s of these guns made with Laminated Steel barrels.

The sale of any frame bearing a serial number is not allowed on Ebay.
Sale of those items must be completed by an FFL to be legal. Unless it qualifies as an antique. In which case, ebay still doesnt care.

There is a Bob Dylan song that goes something like "in Jersey everything's legal, as long as you don't get caught"

Ten years or so ago on eBay I bid on and won a Maynard 1882 single shot action (no barrel) and stock complete in nice shape. It had a visible hammer. It had a serial number on the trigger bar but the serial number was not mentioned in the description. What's a Maynard? So go figure...

My Model 21 cutaway came from ebay. At 1929 or 1930, it is far from an antique. They don't catch them all.

I managed to get two nice 1877 lifters off of ebay a few years ago. At least no laws were violated, just ebay rules. :-)
