Diggory Hadoke is good in that he takes modest budgets into account and is a good read

Geoffrey Boothroyd is good too. Also a pleasure to read and a wealth of knowledge

There is or used to be a book dealer in Philly that was heavy into out of print and used sporting books be it shotguns fly fishing or whatever . They used to list in the Gun Digest . The name escapes me at the moment and I'm not at home to look in an old Digest . But I've ordered from them in the past and they were reputable and helpful .

This is my go-to source for all books shooting related. Especially those on English gunning:

Carol Barnes is superb to deal with!

I don't remember the name of the company offhand, but he is always at the Baltimore show, should be there this weekend, on the back wall. The name is Rutgers Books but I didn't see them Friday.

British Best

To me my best education on English guns came from Cyril Aams who wrote Lock Stock and Barrel. I sat quite a few hours in his den when I lived in Houston and always walked away with a bundle of knowledge and a lot of his sharp opinions. I still own a few of his guns and they were expensive but right. His book tells the story about Damascus myths.

Diggory Hadoke's The British Boxlock Gun and Rifle (Safari Press) is a treasure. Vic Venters says "This is one of the three most important texts on British guns in the last decade."

Rutgers Books doesn't seem to be in attendance at Baltimore Show yesterday. They may be out of business, but I don't know.
