Bill ,You are reading my mind ! Calvin ,I thought the same thing , I would bet the rest of it is around somewhere just finding it will be the thing !

Everybody check you 16 gauge Trojan serial numbers.

Bill Murphy 09-12-2017 08:06 AM

It actually could now be a 12 or 16 gauge. If a barrel change took place at the factory, a #1 frame 12 gauge set is a possibility.

Am I reading it correctly as 173981 ?

Gentlemen ,it is stamped 12 gauge on the rear barrel lug and a 12 Gauge shell fits the chamber perfectly , It is a 12 Gauge ! I am wondering if that is what the " Experimental " part of the equation was / is ? What do you guys think , they all show as 12 Gauges ,maybe they are all built on the # 1 Frame ?

Yes Dean ,That is correct , Pretty neat isn't it !

Mike Franzen 09-12-2017 09:17 PM

Yep, you're right Russ. It is a 12 gauge

Dean Romig 09-12-2017 09:32 PM

However, there is nothing experimental about a 1-frame twelve gauge Parker. They were some of the first Parkers made and 12's were made on the 1-frame into the 1920's.
However, a 12 gauge 1-frame Trojan with Twist barrels I'm sure was an experimental concept.

Dean ,I may be wrong about this but I was /am under the impression that the X Stamping ,stood for experimental ,do you guys know ,is this correct ?

Dean Romig 09-13-2017 07:50 AM

If the X was stamped adjacent to the serial number I would guess something like that but there are X's and +'s stamped on the barrels of thousands of Parkers so I would say no in these cases.
