Specific to "gunsocks"; I only use the cheap China made products with no silicone. I, in my youth, did some auto painting, and silicone was a killer.
I also use Surgical Sockinet available from medical supply companies. It is thinner, sold in 25 yard rolls and very reasonable. Many times guns inside the gunsock will not fit in a takedown hardcase. Yet inside a sockinet ,which is thinner, will fit nicely and still protect the gun.

I recently received some Beretta socks from Cheaper Than Dirt that claim to have a rust inhibitor but no silicone. Haven't used them yet...
