I've bought one gun from Cabelas, a Mod 70 from Rich Anderson when he worked there. I have no beef against Cabelas, some gun people there know their stuff, others don't as much....its the same in any large box store. Sometimes their guns are on consignment with a far fetched hopeful price set by the owner. I get called upon by the local Cabelas on unusual Parkers to assist them to know the gun and I know other Parker people get calls for advise. Cabelas is a good corporate citizen and gives much in charity and can be counted upon to support conservation and related outdoor causes. We have members from Cabelas. To me, if their prices are too high, make a reasonable offer and see what happens, or don't shop there, but nothing is to be gained from trash talking them.

All this could have been done by PM. I guess the old addage"If you don,t have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" hold's true. All I hear are opinion's which we all have. My personal experience with Cabelas is just that,"my personal experience". Those"in the know" are aware of the real deal with these big box stores whether it is outdoor sports or home hardware.

I don't think the comment's about any dealer if kept civil either good or bad. After all WE are the guy's that are going to be buying these gun's. If nothing else they will know we are paying attention.....

I think we all know we can make an offer when the pricing is off the scale. However, some merchandise just dies on the vine if some adjustments are not made over time. I think the feeling that most of our members have is that the Cabela's Gun Library could be gone at some time in the future if it is not run by competent people. I have bought at the Gun Library and will continue to visit Cabela's whenever I am near one.

I just got an email from a friend who is with Cabelas about these posts and thanking me for defending the good people who work for Cabelas. He describes the production pressures they are under, the many calls they get daily, the people lined up, the gun owners trying to hide flaws with guns, the people with inane questions, the sales of plastic Benellis to good double guns of 100 to 1, the endless stream of tire kickers with time consuming question after question and the consignment sellers who put a gun out there and maybe it sells, maybe it doesn't.

Kinda easy to criticize when you haven't walked in the other fellow's boots. Maybe shopping at Cabelas, or the high end dedicated gun dealers, or internet sites, or private individuals isn't for everybody. As for me, I think I have all I've wanted but if there was a good gun that I had been looking for, I think I could find a way to work with about anybody to reach a deal. As an aside, a good friend of mine tried to make a deal with a private seller of a highly unusual Parker but they were so far apart in price there was no coming together and he didn't appreciate the negotiation tactics of the owner and he broke off discussions. So there you go, every sales avenue can have something go wrong.

Bruce that was and is a very nice M70:)

During my brief tenure in the Gun Library Cabelas had no interest in haveing a gunsmith on site. As the number of "collectable" firearms such as our Parkers, Fox, Smiths, Winchesters is a very finite number the people who are knowledgeable in these venues is even more finite, hence the lack of knowledge wether perceived or real of the staff.

You need to be a real gun nut to put in 70+hrs a week for what they are willing to pay.

I bought a gun from them a while back, couldn't be more pleased, really treated me right and I'll definitely be back.

Guys I think we are beating a "Dead Horse". No one is going to change the other guy's mind so let's get back to talking about Parkers. And maybe just maybe this will be the last post on this issue. Please......

My intent was not start a rant against Cabelas. It is a noteworthy gun at a surprising price. I was only trying to provide market information. I will always be a Cabelas customer they support the gun community and the hunting community.
