The biggest thing to learn float hunting is to paddle the canoe quietly.

Down here in coastal SC we have a lot of old rice field ditches in the marsh. The tide is about 4 feet so you can ride it down ,then back up. I use a 12foot pirogue made down in southern La. The secret here is slow and quiet and be damd sure to mark the down bird! I love that you can go any time of day you want and jump some really nice mallards and blacks. The big ducks like to rest in the ditches in the afternoons ,so ricefields decoy shooting in the morning and old ditches in the afternoon.

My all time favorite bumper sticker- "Paddle faster, I hear banjo music".
I cut my eye teeth jump shooting ducks in the sloughs and creeks adjacent to Blackwater NWR outside of Cambridge, MD. It was so simple and very effective.
