Russ, I've seen guns like that. They are usually used in club shoots,Lucky X or Turkey shoots. The object is is to get the most shot in a given area at a certain distance. In other words very tight patterns placed on target. Try it before you take the scope off. The results may be interesteing.

I was down in the hills of Ten. and came across turkey shoot that was different than
anything I had ever seen. They would shoot at a target and would count the shot w within the circle. They had specially choked guns with extra long barrels. Just a bunch of good ole boys drinkin a little shine and shooten targets with there shot guns. |
That is the kind of Turkey Shoot I grew up with. At the fire station the turkey shooter would pay $2 and get in a line of other shooters, 25 in all, and shoot 25 yards at a paper dinner plate stapled to a board. Somewhere "near" the center was a pence X mark that isn't viable to the shooter. After the shot the plates were taken to a table and the plate with a "BB" nearest the X mark wins a turkey.
These shoots are fun because a 10 year old has as much chance of winning as the local top trap shot. Everyone has fun, eats some good food, chats with friends and neighbors and everyone has a chance at a turkey. Around here the top shot goes home with a car load and my best chance at winning a turkey is buying a door raffle ticket. Naturally, somebody figures out how to get an unfair advantage even shooting X marks on a plate by playing with the shot in his shells. So now for the $2 you get a "known" shell handed to you at the shooting line that must be used to win. |
Hey the gun barrel is home maid for turkey shooting I go to these type of shoots all the time. I have a winchester model 12 with a home maid 36" barrel. I will say the gun needs to be shot at about 66 to 75 feet and it will blow the center out of a 2" circle and that is what you have to do to win. I love Fine doubles bot I have a lot of fun at these shoots and you can win a serous amount of money. I have shot for a hole side of beef and it is nouthing to shoot for twenty stakes at one time. .......... Yeah.... That's pretty much the way most of the shoots are handled out here in W. PA where I come from. Bring what you're gonna shoot, it doesn't matter, but you WILL shoot club supplied shells. Closest to the pencil "X" wins... and the "X" isn't always drawn in the center of the plate. Lots of good laughs and food. It oughta be that way.... |
