Either way it's meat in the freezer. Our late deer season is antlerless only as well. I'm a rifle nut so I have to ask what did you use on the Elk?

COB I shoot a Tikka t-3 in 300 wsm , I added a muzzle brake, Limbsaver pad and a home made cheek piece to get my eye in line with the scope after I ditched the factory rings and added a evolution gun works rail and Blackhawk rings.

The Scope is a 3.5-10 Leupold vx-3 that I sent back to the factory and had a elevation turret added, I shoot a hand load with a 180 grain Nosler Accubond bullet at 2900 fps, the gun is sighted in to be dead on at 250 yards, I have dots on the dial for 400-500 and 600 yards, yesterdays shot was my farthest to date on an elk, 474 yards.

I have a good friend here in town who was a sniper Instructor for 9 years, he also did a tour in Somalia and 4 tours in Iraq. He has helped me set up my gun and and provided me with some good basic training on long range shooting, last month I shot a three shot group at 600 yards that was just inside of 6 inches.
