WOW , guys went to the auction and that gun sold for 2700.00 . That blew me away.

Jack Cronkhite 02-14-2010 10:07 PM

Oh my. Now compare that to this nice one (different gun for sure but............)

RICHIE THAMES 02-14-2010 10:41 PM

Jack, I agree with you ! Much nicer gun there . I'll have to keep my eyes open . I like gunbroker and will keep my eyes open . Didn't get the gun at the auction but did get some great 1st edition books .

Richie, I think it was Phineas T. Barnum who said "A fool and his money are soon parted."

That $2700 hammer price on that beat up G-grade you introduced us to is a classic example of the truth in the words of the owner and chief promoter of "The Greatest Show On Earth" and we are witness to some wonderfully entertaining circuses in the world of gun collecting.

Dean Romig 02-14-2010 10:43 PM

Richie, tell us about the books

RICHIE THAMES 02-14-2010 11:12 PM

Dean , really picked up a few really nice ones . Got a diary from dixie 1st editon in really nice shape, Lafayette and three revolutions 1st editon in really great shape .
It was really a great auction . The family that was having the auction was from early S.C. history and alot that they were auctioning had great historical value for our area.

Jack Cronkhite 02-14-2010 11:36 PM

Richie: Is it possible the gun commanded the price because the buyer just wanted to have a piece of that particular family's history? That might explain such a high price for what has been considered to be worth significantly less than that (as simply a gun) by forum contributors.

RICHIE THAMES 02-15-2010 08:04 AM

Jack, i think you hit the nail on the head . This family had their family tree that went back so far it was mind blowing . The family had two governors of the state of S.C. that dated back to the late 1800's. A lot of civil war history came out of that house this weekend .It was fun being there and watching . Also getting a little piece of it .
