Yup, New Stock
An update: we're definitely talking new stock. Tried unscrewing the butt pad to see what I had and the stock started to crumble. Close examination shows many, many cracks filled years ago with epoxy. Me thinks the stock is done.
I'm not too worried about market value, as I have no intent to sell. Just wanted to make sure I was not messing with anything too pricey before starting the restoration process. Also planning on a new trigger guard and a new screw. And whatever else is needed. The goal is bring this shotgun back to safe and solid shooter status for my boys. And Mr. Dudley, I'll probably need your help with this. I'll reach out privately. |
Brian just finnished one for me. He dose wonderful work at a fair price.

Sorry this took so long. Just moved and I had trouble finding my camera. Please keep in mind that this stock was in sorry shape. My instructions to Mr Dudly were as follows, Install period correct Recoil pad, Recut checkering Repair chip in stock, Varnish type finish. Also asked him not to try and iron out every dent. Wanted the gun to have some charictor.

Thanks for the pictures Wayne
And nice job Brian |
I could have topped my car off with oil from what was in that stock head. The inside of the action was real clean though. I also replaced a number of the small action screws with good originals since many of them were very messed up.
