"Grassed" was a popular term for cleanly killing a bird

Destry L. Hoffard 06-04-2013 05:17 PM

Yes that would be another excellent way to put it.

A six man shoot-off, from back in the day. Location, somewhere in Mexico.

Todd that buckle is awesome! How on earth did you come by such a treasure? Did you win it?

todd allen 06-16-2013 09:46 PM

I was in the shoot-off, and the Calcutta. Got to be in a shoot-off with some great shooters, and won some serious money that day.

Daryl Corona 06-16-2013 10:41 PM

Nice shooting Todd. Dan Bonillas was one of the top trap and live bird shooters at the time. Hitting the calcutta was just icing on the cake. You were'nt shooting a Parker were you?

todd allen 06-16-2013 11:52 PM

No, Perazzi SC3. I have shot a lot of birds with various Parkers, but my competition guns have all been Italian.
The exception was one year that I shot everything with a G Grade pigeon gun, that I paid way too much money for.
I have been out of the bird game for about 5 years. I hunt almost exclusively with Parkers these days, btw.

A side note; as good as Dan Bonillas was/is, Troy Scotten was the guy to beat at pigeons.
He is probably one of the finest pigeon shooters of our time.

Some day I will have to give live birds a try if for no other reason than just to say I did it.

Mark Ouellette 06-17-2013 12:04 PM

Rich,

Let's just go to an Amish market and buy a few dozen pigeons!
