What the heck might have to pattern my old Greener and the Westley Richards !
Be kinda neat to kill a deer with handloaded buckshot outta either of those two . As all they've ever been fired at since I owned them were dove , quail , grouse or clay targets ! Have an old 60's Superposed long tang flat knob 12 skeet gun I might try the buck in also ! |
Well Charlie I got number 16 this evening at about 19:00 . Shot her with the Ruger #1B 243 I gave my dad for Xmas about 5 or 6 years ago !
First time I ever took it out !!!!! Was shooting the Nosler 95 grain Ballistic Tip pushed with 42,5 grains of IMR4350 ! I am not a big advocate of a 243 or 6mm for deer and had not shot one with either cartridge in quite awhile . But I gotta say that bullet knocked the fire out of the doe I shot ! She was a lasered 56 yards and I popped her thru the two front shoulders and she bumbled maybe 30 yards forward . Next trip is going to be a 1B I have in 6mm REM loaded with Hornady 95 grain SST's ! |
well we got 5 more to go now you got me counting each deer...the 243 is one gun i ve never owned or shotquite a few people hunt with them around were i live.. i like the looks of the old 6mmswedish round the bullet looked like it was as long as the case..had a friend that dropped a lot of deer with a 6mm rem. mag.. i m looking for no 17 now.... charlie

My little Border Terrier Keelie had to be put to sleep today . She was 15 years and two months a couple days ago !
She was fine up until friday afternoon and then she couldn't keep anything down . We took her to the Vet saturday morning and they said she had an infection of some type so we then took her to the pet hospital in Charlottesville and they did tests etc . We were informed she had cancer in her liver and it was nothing they could do . So we went up this morning to see her one last time , they put her to sleep and we brought her home . |
Craig; truly sorry to hear that.
|
So sorry for your loss Craig.
|
Craig, I am truly sorry for your loss. These animals may be pets but they are more than that. They are loved family members.

Thanks to all ! And yes sir they are truely part of the family ! I've had Border Terriers since 1962 ! And it looks as if I may very well be taking a trip a little south of Nashville to get another before the end of the year . I kept English Setters also for awhile for grouse , But all my bird dogs were kennel dogs . Now granted I thought alot of all of them , the Borders were ALL house dogs so as one would expect when the time comes it's a whole lot rougher . |
Craig:
Truly sorry to hear of her passing. I'd love to get 15yrs. out of my dogs. Show us the new pup when it arrives. |
i know how you feel craig..i m sorry but also remember the good times... charlie
