New Year Shoot
 

Pete; That round of protection, with the 10ga guns backing up the 12's was the most fun in years. We should make it a feature of any PGCA shooting event.

Thank you Austin, yes it was fun. I have always enjoyed shooting a protection. Years ago when we had a lot of regular trapshooters a protection was how we closed the evening. The idea of the having a 10ga backup a 12ga on five two man teams was a completely impromptu idea on my part, made possible when I realized we had five 10ga guns/shooters in attendance. I did not want a situation to develop where two 10ga shooters were paired up. Pulling 12ga names out of the hat and then 10g names out of a hat made the team selection a random event. Will try to do it again next year and please spread the word of what we did so others can enjoy at other events.

The only downside is the 12ga shooter gets to shoot at every target while the 10ga shooter gets the crumbs. However I know Scott and I enjoy shooting a little clean up on the trap field with the 10 bores when we get the chance and I am sure others do too.

For those that didn't know I was paired up with Robin Lewis who was shooting a 16ga and did very well. Robin somehow was out of shells when it came for us to shoot our last bird. I told Robin to fake it, mount his gun and call pull. I loaded my gun with two shells but managed to break the bird on my first shot :rotf: John happened to be taking pictures and I think he was the only one wise to our improvised last shot when we did it :)

Yes, that was a hoot! Some of the 10 ga. shooters shot so quickly after the 12 ga. shot was taken there really wasn't time for the 12 ga. shot to get to the bird. Those 10 ga. shooters needed nerves of steel in order not to disqualify.
