I recently ran out of powder and was going to have to start trying to find more Hodgdon International. Then by luck a good friend of mine called me up and asked me if i would want to purchase a buch of reloading supplies from him since he was getting out of it. Among a lot of other things about 20 lbs of International powder came with the buy, for VERY cheap! So fortunately, i am set for a while.

I was at Deep River yesterday, Home of the Southern SxS. He has most useful Shotgun powders in stock. Good supply of 7 1/2 shot too. Dealer I buy from most Green Top in Ashland Va is also well stocked with powders and shot.

Clays Universal
I replied to this thread recently re unavailable powder. I checked with my supplier and I am supposed to receive my order of Clays Universal next week. Hornady is only making it available in 1 lb cans rather than 8 lb kegs as they have supplied in the past. In my opinion this lends to the theory of hoarding as they have decried as the reason for the shortage of powder. If one wants to make a profit from powder all they have to do is buy from a wholesaler and resale at a higher price with the 1 lb cans. I would be much more difficult with 4 and 8 lb kegs. I will not complain as I will be glad to get the powder that has been on backorder for 2 1/2 years. Jim Garrett

At Cabelas, Wheeling yesterday they had Blue Dot, Unique, Int. Clays. Univ. clays, and Clays. Also Longshot, WSF, Super AA, Titewad, Titegroup, and Lil" gun

POWDER BURN RATES

This chart helps me find a substitute powder when I can't find exactly what I am looking for. I don't substitute the loads but rely on the loading data for the new powder which the chart will get you in the ballpark of what you are looking for.

I have been using relitive quickness charts loading rifle and pistol cartridges for years. Can't find what you want they give good alternatives. W 748 for BL C, or Varget in the 308 or 4759 vs 4227 in 32/40 & 38/55 good example. However Rifles you can start low work up a load, Cronograph, look at cases for pressure signs, etc. number of ways to stay safe.
Shotguns advice has always been published loads only. That's fine for modern guns, Older doubles, powder shortages and discontinued powders put me back into the relitive quickness charts. I follow rifle methods, start very low, make sure the wad leaves the barrel, don't switch the other components, and most often try the load in a pump shotgun first. Work up very slowly Cronographing. Would rather follow published but the powder companies make it more difficult every year. William |
Stopped into my favorite Ohio "Outdoor Superstore" this afternoon and was delighted to see a wide variety of powders on hand in both 1 lb and 8 lb containers. No problem finding Red Dot, Clay Dot, Green Dot, etc. in either size. Don't tell the doomsday preppers...
|
Last week I took a ride around part of NH and stopped at three gun stores in fairly close proximity to each other, Riley's, Shooters Outpost and Bass Pro. Each store had a few small bottles of 700-X. Shooters Outpost had one 1lb bottle of Alliant Clay Dot, and Bass Pro had one 1lb bottle of Green Dot. Although this is better than bare shelves it still suggests to me the powder drought may be easing but things have not returned to normal in this part of the country.
|
Things are improving. One of SoCal's most popular suppliers, Phillips Wholesale - http://www.phillipswholesale.com/, has had 700-X, along with a lot of others, in stock for a few weeks (the News and Updates tab lists the current inventory). Looks like waiting in line, 8 hours before opening, or shipping and Haz-Mat fees are a thing of the past. For now...

What are the limitations of 700-X for water fowling from a blind? I'm ready to open another keg for 1 1/8 loads, bismuth and lead. No problems with other powders, just to simplify and reduce clutter; possessions are a burden at a certain age.

The chart.

Now that I think of it, I've also seen a resurgence of Federal 209 primers... my absolute favorite for any loads. I bought a brick without even batting an eye when I spotted them. Well... maybe my Visa card...
|
I get Cheddites for 112 a brick. It's all I've used for a number of years. We just received our club order and got a number of powders in the 8# size - Unique, Blue Dot, Green Dot, Clay Dot, Universal Clays, Int'l Clays, American Select, 700X, and 410. I wouldn't say the powder shortage isn't there, but it's getting better.

I saw Eagle magnum shot for sale at a small local shop last week for $35 cash only. That is the best price I've seen in a while. I think I'll be returning to stock up for next winter's reloading spree. I'm done reloading for this winter. Now it's time to shoot, shoot, and shoot some more.

You fly to CAC? Tell us about that.

CAC is almost directly across the road from the municipal airport so we fly up call them when we land they drive a pickup across the road with our stuff for an additional $10 , we load and are generally back in the air 20 minutes after we landed ! |
Outback Arms in Plympton, Mass has plenty of powder, wads, primers and lead shot. Was there yesterday and loaded up.

Allen: Did Outback have Clays or Nitro 100
|
Pete,
All I needed was lead and their 25 lb bags go for $53/bag. I only needed lead shot. I think I saw $153 for the largest container of Red Dot. Yes, they had Clays and Nitro 100. They have powder all over the shop. The other day I paid $4.43/box for Federal 209 primers at M&M Plymouth Bay Outfitters in downtown Plymouth |
Believe it or not Green Top in Ashland VA is having a 10 % off sale on loading components. Base price is the new normal 47.95 Shot 150 dollar 8 lb Jugs of powder. 32 dollars for 1000 primers.
10 % gets it back to about were prices were, more or less. William |
A small local gunshop has new manufacture Hodgdon Clays. Eight pounders at $145. It has been a long time since I've seen any for sale.
|
Gary, were you still needing WAA Lite? I have a few pounds of it that I am not using and could bring to Hausmann's--
|
Yes, Harold I will take whatever amount you wish to part with. Let me know what day(s) you plan to be there.
|
Good Lord, if I had to pay those prices I might quit shooting. We pay 35 for shot, 112/5000 primers, and anywhere from 98 to 112 for 8# of powder. Maybe if you guys found a club to shoot at that orders supplies, or join in on their order.
|
Would anyone on here happen to have about 20 lbs of SR 7625 they would want to sell...PM Me if you do. Also I just bought 8lbs of 700x from precision reloading for 149.00. they had in stock a week ago.

There was recently 8 lbs. of 7625 advertised for sale at $275.00, it was either here on the PGCA or the AHFCA site. I don't know if it found a buyer yet or not.

Nice fish! Hook or spear? My daughter is so into free-diving and spearfishing it's silly. My wife and I asked her if she wanted a new bed for Christmas, and she said no, she wanted a new spear gun.
Greg, I think that was Mr. Srebo. He said he's deliver it to the southern. I spose $34 a pound is ok, if you absolutely don't want to switch. I have enough to last thru the year, but have already begun experimenting with some new loads. |

She has a weekly TV show in New Orleans called Martha's Fishtails. She actually gets paid to do this. Where did I go wrong?
|
It was on hook... but spearfishing is fun. About the difference between killing a deer with a rifle compared to a bow. They shoot some big fish with spearguns. Youtube is full of videos. That is a Dog Snapper taken out of La Paz Mexico. Just above cabo
Im too old to be holding my breath. lol |
