I was looking back in the 2001 DGJ last night when I see Frank Fords 36" Parker given to him by his dad. It said the gun along with five or six others were built in 1908. Anyone ever heard or see Mr. Fords gun or any of the others? Anyway what a gun!!!!! Donnie Reels

I have two 36" Parkers, a GH 10g on a #3 frame and a DH 8g on a #6 frame. 34" or greater lengths in gauges other than 10 or 8 are pretty rare in the Parker world. I've never seen Mr. Ford's gun or its like outside DGJ.There's a 40" 16g out there somewhere...I'd like to sit on a Southern deer stand with that one!

A 40" GH 16 with Vulcan Steel barrels was displayed at Shenendoah Guns in Berryville, VA about the time that they were selling the Billy Mitchell collection. I would suspect that the gun belonged to General Mitchell.

Don Kaas I like the pic of Mr. Money. I didn't know there was a 16 gun out there with 40" barrels I have a new wish for Santa this year. Oh MY!!!

A 36 inch 10 gauge is something I'd like to own one day. But I'd settle for that 34 inch one Murphy is holding for me.

Destry, start making plans to outlive me. Linda will be on a selling frenzy if I ever kick the bucket. First to go will be the '79 Low Rider, second will be the 460 powered Country Squire Shooting Brake. Once these are sold, the big guns will be next to go. The one from a couple of weeks ago is one of the best. Good luck with the Cobb gun on the crane shoot. How do you tell what direction those guys are flying? I don't want to hear any excuses about those paper shells. Bring some backup ammo.

Don;

If my memory is right that 40" 16 ga was owned by a Parker Collector here in the Toledo area, Dick Bohls. He ended his life via a gun, hopefully not with a Parker a few years ago. I shot trap with him on occasion and he talked about it one evening at the shooting club remarking the gun was very rare, ie the only one ever produced by Parker.

:shock:He must have been a tall fellow if he used a 40" gun to do the deed....

Yes Don he was six feet in socks and about my build. He and Kevin had tables next to one another at the Parker meeting/OGCA show in Cleveland. I never saw the gun but you could take Dick's word to the bank.
BTW I miss shooting with him and his conversation.

Donnie ... I bought a 10ga. Top Lever Hammer Gun with 34" Bernard barrels a few months ago ... I've never seen or heard of another gun with the same configuration and the Parker Story says there was only one such gun made ... Looks like it may be the only known gun of it's kind.

Jim, I have a 33" C Bernard top action hammer gun. Is your gun on a #4 frame?

Bill ... My SN 33940 is a 10ga - Grade 3 - on a #5 frame with 34" Bernard barrels ... The charts in the Parker Story show it to be the only gun of that configuration, but because some of the Parker Bros records are missing, all I can say that it's the ONLY KNOWN GUN of that particular configuration.

:rotf:only THIRTY FOUR inches...around here we'd call that gun "Stubby"! Destry uses a 34" DHE as a quail gun... Seriously, a neat gun, Jim:cool:

There is a stubby 34" DHE 12 ga up for auction at Rock Island this weekend.

My 34" CHE will have to do...there's a 32" magnum Fox HE up too (at a low estimate) if you are into heavyweights, don't need another one of those either...

I am restoring a VH 12 with 34" barrels. It is on a 3 frame. I have two 8 gauges (not Parkers) one Greener sxs with 36" barrels and a William Griffiths hammer with 39" barrel. I can't top the 40" 16 gauge! I would like to get a 4 gauge or punt gun some day.

Jim: Is that the gun you got from CH last year?

Guy,

I can't beat that, my Churchill 8 gauge is only 36 inches. I do have a punt gun though, but it's a shorty, barrel is only about 5 feet long. Nice big bore though, just over an inch and a half if memory serves.

Destry,

Tell me about your Churchill 8 gauge. I did not know that Churchill made many large bores. Is it a sidelock?

It's a boxlock oddly enough, made in 1899 with fluid steel barrels. Straight stock, full coverage engraving on the reciever, weighs about 16 pounds. It's the only big bore Churchill I've ever heard of, I should order a letter on it one of these days I suppose.
