This post is similar to Mark Callanan's about a GH with 26" barrels, but letters to 28". I recieved my letter yesterday on my go to gun, a VH 16 1 frame with 28" barrels. To my surprise, the letter came back 30" barrels choked M/F. I was quite surprised, because these barrels do not seem to be cut. There is a distinct end to the matted rib, with distinct line/ending before the muzzles. I even looked at it under a magnifying glass. The gun was M/F when I bought it, but a friend had a 16 ga IC reamer, so now both barrels are IC, and that works well for me. It really is not that big a deal to me, cause this gun is just a shooter, but I would get rid of my DHE 16 and VH 20 before I would part with this gun--my first Parker. Just got a new camera with a good macro lens, so I may try to take a picture of the end. All of the hang tags also came with this gun when I bought it in the late '80's.

are there Remington repair codes?
my VH 16 1 frame has Remington installed replacement 28" tubes.

Here are the muzzles of my 24" PHE16 that letters with 28" bbls. It has no choke in either bbl. No way to tell for sure if they're factory cut. One forum member has said he thinks so; no one else has ventured an opinion. Looks like it could be factory work.
Dean mentions the bead below. I just looked at my VH and VHE 20's of similar vintage and they have a smaller diameter steel colored bead vs this brass bead.

How about this--I just had a thought and looked at the hang tags--they say 28" barrels. I will have Chuck Bishop recheck the serial #212735 to make sure what his records state.

Rich, just looking at the end of the rib matting, that does look factory to me but I am no expert.

They look correct to me Rich. We know that the factory cut barrels on guns to meet shipping requests.

I agree about the muzzles looking like factory work but that bead leaves me wondering.

Let's see the muzzle pics Harold. Have you measured the length of the chokes?

I will try to take muzzle pics, but dont think it is necessary now. As , you can see the hang tags state 28", and the weight is correct for the gun. The barrel weight is 3lbs 5oz, and if that is what they weigh when i put them on the scale, then we will know that this just another case of the records being innacurate. The end of the rib is finished off as in your picture above

Hey Chuck,
no problem. What with the 13 degrees and blowing snow, patients have been cancelling, giving me time to play around on the forum. I had forgotten I had those hang tags--hell, probably really didnt even need a letter since I had the tags. As they say, sh** happens.
