Keep em' coming Gents. These are the guns that the not so landed gentry could only afford and took to the field for some great New England Grouse shooting a la W.H. Foster's days. The ones that put the meat on the table!!

Actually, Dave's Trojan is nearly identical to Jamie's 16 ga. Trojan that he shot at Addieville on Sunday. We beleive they both were restored by the same person, they are that close. They are about the best Trojan restorations that we have seen.

Boy, no wonder they put in bag limits. I sometimes don't see that many ducks in a week let alone using a live decoy. They were the days. By the way OP, that's Mr. Smart A** to you.:rotf: Was that the first bird you killed with your Trojan the day you got it? Dave, thanks for the picture.

Daryl O.P. didn't shoot that Woodcock. They (he and Dean AKA Grampy) drive around at night during the flight and hit them with the car:shock:

It's pretty easy really... driving through the mown fields at night their little eyes glow in the beam of the headlights.
Actually, I read somewhere that's what folks did long ago with flares or lights and they would just walk up to them at night and club them.... Pretty sporting, huh?

Steve, that 9X57 double rifle sure doesn't look like a "working man's gun" but rather a gun of a man with the wherewithal to travel to other continents to hunt large and dangerous game. :)
The engraving is amazing! Can we see the wood please?

This old girl has done her share of work. The left hammer is brazed back together, the trigger guard shows a crack that has a splice added and held together with rivets and there are some pins holding the wood on the right side of the stock. Only marks are the patend date on the tang, rib inscription on rib and serial number 27 on the frame both sides. This just shows to fix what is broke so we can keep putting food on the table. Definitely a working mans gun.

Here are two more. LC Smith 00 Grade 12 gauge. Parker GH 12 gauge. The LC Smith is a great shooter. The GH has 23" barrels and I bought it for my wife who likes smaller guns. Not collectors' pieces by a long shot, but great shooters.

Thanks Charlie. Well, the top 3 are 10 gauge and the bottom a GH is 12. The two on top are not beauty queens by any stretch but are both Maryland waterfowl guns, one from a family friend who's grandfather actually may have bought it new. These guns for me are really the foundation of why I got into sxs. I grew up hunting on the Chesapeake...Choptank River to be precise and have fond memories of the "old guys" and my dad in his younger years hunting in cold, snowy and icy weather...the kind that stories are written about. While I was just a kid at the time, the comraderie and stories of old, old hunters, guides and trips still stay close to my heart and are fond memories as many of the old guys have passed on. My dad and the members of his club shot the occasional model 12 and humpback but in many a day, doubles (Parkers, Ithacas, LC's) were used with great success. Anyway, not to go too deep here, just having them, in their original, used and worn state reminds me of great times...
I hunt regurally with the 3rd 10ga down and did fairly well with it (and NICE shot) for the last 3 years. Daryl Corona found it and I believe we traded for something he wanted. I had Craig Smith re-do the barrels as I just wanted to see how great twist barrels would look. I have to say, he did a great job in my opinion.

I shot this LC Smith today for the first time and it didn't blow up so I guess 1898 wasn't a bad year after all. Now I'll just have to shoot a bird with it and that will be a challenge!:rotf:
